OVERVIEW OF MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL

Located near the shores of Lake Michigan, Muskegon Catholic Central (MCC) is an independent Catholic school committed to providing a rigorous education rooted in faith, values and community. POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Marketing and Outreach Specialist is responsible for a mix of project management, event coordination, and administrative and creative tasks that support MCC’s evolving marketing and communication strategy. Working an average of 25-28 hours/week, the Specialist supports the school’s administrative leadership team and works cooperatively with the senior leadership, teachers and staff to promote the story of MCC as a way to generate greater support of and engagement with the mission of MCC: to educate each student in spirit, mind and body by fostering personal excellence within the Catholic tradition. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Develops and implements marketing and communication strategies that effectively support the mission of MCC, with a particular focus on enrollment management and fundraising initiatives. 
  • Generates content for online and print communications, including the development of persuasive messaging and storytelling and the creation of visually appealing graphics, images, and videos. 
  • Serves as the website manager, ensuring that the website effectively communicates the MCC mission by: updating website content; optimizing design and user experience; implementing SEO strategies to improve visibility; tracking website analytics; and making data-driven improvements to enhance performance.
  • Manages and maximizes MCC’s social media presence by: generating high-engagement content for social media channels; creating and scheduling posts across platforms; monitoring channels; responding to comments and messages promptly; and using analytics to track performance, identify trends and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Manages digital advertising campaigns using platforms such as Google Ads and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn); monitor campaign performance and analyze campaign results; and optimize strategies to maximize return on investment.
  • Supports colleagues in the management of email marketing, including providing assistance in: creating and managing email marketing campaigns; developing email newsletters and appeals; maintaining email subscriber list; segmenting recipients for targeted messaging; and analyzing email performance metrics.
  • Provides event coordination and support for programs including: recruiting/admissions events (e.g., open houses, new family welcome events, etc.); fundraising events (e.g., Crusader Open, Wall of Honor Dinner, Rainbow Auction); and academic events (e.g., orientation, baccalaureate, commencement).
  • Fosters media engagement and helps respond to media inquiries. 
  • Assists colleagues with presentations as needed.
  • Uses the school’s customer relationship management (CRM) platforms to support enrollment management and fundraising efforts.
  • Cultivates relationships within Muskegon County, the Diocese of Grand Rapids Catholic school system and the West Deanery parishes in the Diocese of Grand Rapids.  
  • Develops new ways to represent MCC at various external organizations and associations. 
  • Prepares and manages the departmental budget, monitoring all expenditures to assure compliance with school policies. 
  • Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating professionalism, collegiality, integrity, discretion, good judgment, positive attitude, solution orientation, and a strong work ethic. 
  • Invests in the life of the school by participating in meetings, trainings, professional development, and other activities that support the student and faculty experience as appropriate to the role. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the President.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong commitment to the mission of MCC
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • A passion for Catholic education and an understanding of Catholic school culture
  • Experience in marketing, communications and/or public relations
  • Experience with graphic design, photography and video  
  • Experience with website management, digital advertising and social media engagement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with great attention to detail 
  • High level of creativity 
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, or willingness to learn and use CRMs 
  • Extensive organizational and follow-through skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously both independently and within a team-oriented structure 
  • Ability to lead, collaborate and execute 
  • Outstanding judgment, professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Active practicing Catholic is preferred

  • Regular work hours for full-time teaching staff are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or as otherwise directed by administration. The President will regulate the work hours for this employment position. Hours for administrative and support staff will be designated by their direct supervisor(s). Administrative and Support Staff personnel should check with their direct supervisor for specified work hours.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is required to be available at all times to respond to building-level emergency situations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
