OVERVIEW OF MUSKEGON CATHOLIC CENTRAL

Located near the shores of Lake Michigan, Muskegon Catholic Central (MCC) is an independent Catholic school committed to providing a rigorous education rooted in faith, values and community. As a private, college-preparatory school, we serve approximately 315 students from infant care through 12th grade. POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Director of Enrollment Management is responsible for the recruitment, selection and enrollment of a diverse class of high-potential students for MCC. Working an average of 20-25 hours/week, the Director is a member of the school’s administrative leadership team and works cooperatively with the senior leadership, board of trustees, teachers and staff in setting direction and policy to ensure strategic enrollment that enriches, reflects and supports the mission of MCC: to educate each student in spirit, mind and body by fostering personal excellence within the Catholic tradition. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leadership and Management 

  • Leads all facets of the enrollment management process in the school’s effort to attract, enroll and retain a diverse and dynamic student population.
  • Designs long-term strategies and leads implementation of plans in accordance with enrollment priorities and mission of MCC. 
  • Works in partnership with senior leadership, faculty and staff, board of trustees, and other school constituencies to articulate, activate and build support for admissions priorities and philosophy. 
  • Provides regular reports and planning documents to senior leadership, faculty and staff, and board of trustees on the results of enrollment activity. 
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to develop admissions publications and programs that are consistent with the overall strategy of MCC. 
  • Serves as power-user and expert on FinalSite, the school’s customer relationship management (CRM) platform, for enrollment management.
  • Cultivates relationships within Muskegon County, the Diocese of Grand Rapids Catholic school system and the West Deanery parishes in the Diocese of Grand Rapids.  
  • Represents MCC at various external organizations and associations. 
  • Protects the confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and uses discretion in sharing such information within the legal confines. 
  • Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating professionalism, collegiality, integrity, discretion, good judgment, positive attitude, solution orientation, and a strong work ethic. 
  • Invests in the life of the school by participating in meetings, trainings, professional development, and other activities that support the student and faculty experience as appropriate to the role. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the President. 

Recruitment, Admission and Retention Activities 

  • Oversees the recruitment process for MCC, with a strong commitment to data integrity and process improvement. 
  • In partnership with school leaders, administers the evaluation and decision-making processes for admissions, including establishing standards for evaluating and making final admit/deny decisions to successfully enroll students which reflect the MCC mission. 
  • Reviews and reads applications; interviews prospective students; responds to applicant inquiries; and counsels’ prospective students and their families regarding the admissions process. 
  • Organizes and manages activities and events to attract a diverse class of applicants to MCC, including open houses, shadow days/programs, individual visits, family tours, group tours, information nights and new-student programs. 
  • Conducts presentations (e.g., feeder schools, consultants, tours, and school fairs) to promote MCC and attract prospective students and their families. 
  • Provides ongoing consultation and communication to prospective and admitted students and their families. 
  • Seeks feedback from families in the application process on a regular basis and uses feedback to improve processes. 
  • In coordination with the Business Office, manages the re-enrollment of current students for the succeeding year with constant monitoring of attrition and retention. 
  • Manages mid-year applications processes. 
  • Prepares and manages the departmental budget, monitoring all expenditures to assure compliance with school policies. 
  • Consults with academic and leadership colleagues regarding the development of interventions for improving the overall student retention rate. 

Financial Aid Activities 

  • Supports the Director of Business Affairs in: 
    • Developing a yearly plan for financial aid awards
    • Determining financial aid award packages for admitted students
    • Reviewing files and application materials to determine family’s ability to pay and eligibility for institutional funds. 
    • Communicating respectfully with a diverse population of current and prospective students and families. 

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong commitment to the mission of MCC
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • A passion for Catholic education and an understanding of Catholic school culture
  • Experience in admissions, with an understanding of enrollment principles, techniques and activities as well as a knowledge of and adherence to ethical standards of the enrollment and admissions profession
  • Experience with FinalSite or other CRM platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as a proven ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels 
  • Extreme tact and discretion, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence
  • Extensive organizational and follow-through skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously both independently and within a team-oriented structure 
  • Ability to lead, collaborate and execute 
  • Outstanding judgment, professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • High level of creativity and flexibility 
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Active practicing Catholic is preferred

  • Regular work hours for full-time teaching staff are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or as otherwise directed by administration. The President will regulate the work hours for this employment position. Hours for administrative and support staff will be designated by their direct supervisor(s). Administrative and Support Staff personnel should check with their direct supervisor for specified work hours.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is required to be available at all times to respond to building-level emergency situations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
