About the Catholic Services Appeal

(en Español)

The Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) is the annual diocesan collection which supports the programs and ministries of our diocese. As a diocese of over 45,000 Catholic households, our financial gifts are joined together through the CSA in support of the following programs and ministries so that we may continue the teaching, healing ministry of Jesus:

Priestly Vocations
Catholic School Education
Cultural Ministries - Hispanic Ministry, Black Catholic Ministry, Native American Ministry
Catholic Charities West Michigan

The annual goal for each parish is calculated based on a percentage of their annual offertory and ensuring that each parish provides direct support to Catholic schools in the diocese.

What does my gift to CSA support?

  • Priestly Vocations - The future of the Catholic Church relies on men responding to God's call to this vocation in their lives. Your CSA gift supports the work of the Office of Priestly Vocations as they assist candidates in prayerfully discerning their call to become priests and walk with them through the joys and challenges of the formation process and ordained life.

  • Catholic School Education - More than 6,500 students in 31 Catholic schools across our 11-county diocese are formed in our faith, educated for college and life, and provided with an environment in which they are welcomed and cherished for their unique gifts. Your CSA gift ensures that a Catholic school education is possible for all children by providing scholarship support and helps the Office of Catholic Schools in partnering with principals and teachers in the areas of policy, standards, training and curriculum.

  • Cultural Ministries - The Catholic community in the Diocese of Grand Rapids is enriched by people of many cultures who come together to form the universal Church. Your gift to the CSA supports our Hispanic, Black Catholic, and Native American ministry offices which help to meet the sacramental, spiritual and material needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ through education, programming and outreach.

  • Catholic Charities West Michigan (CCWM) - Through your CSA contribution, you help CCWM meet the needs of our community by feeding the hungry, counseling those who struggle, and building strong families in our 11-county diocese.

  • Catechesis - Your CSA contribution helps train and support parish catechists and directors of religious education as they grow in faith and help form others in our faith. Your gift also ensures that materials are accurate, up-to-date and effective in enabling all to grow in faith and discipleship.

  • Communication - Your gift supports the work of the Office of Communications in carrying out the call to bring Christ and his message of salvation to the world. Among the many ways this work is accomplished is the weekly live broadcast of Sunday Mass from the Cathedral of Saint Andrew and FAITH Grand Rapids magazine.
