Master Skills Teacher with a Focus in Humanities, Student Support Services

Description

In collaboration with the Student Support Services team, instructional faculty, and the Counseling department, the Master Skills Teacher provides direct academic support to students and serves as the student progress communicator with parents, counselors, administrators, and the classroom teachers for assigned core subject classes.

Special Note

This position is a shared time position with Brighton Area Schools. The teacher hired will be a member of our Catholic Central High School staff, but will be a public school employee with public school benefits and employed by BAS Shared Services.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Deliver the curriculum of the Master Skills Course
  • Perform case management duties for students in this course: provide ongoing, effective communication surrounding instructional recommendations, observations, and progress of students with all stakeholders involved in ensuring success of students (counselors, administrators, parents, etc.)
  • Support differentiation, accommodation, and personalized learning needs of each student and maintain records of interventions, accommodations and support offered to students on caseload
  • Monitor implementation of student accommodations/progress and document accordingly
  • Administer assessments to monitor student progress
  • Maintain records of student interventions and progress data
  • Facilitate testing accommodations for identified students
  • Support all students in our Student Support Services department to include, but not limited to, the following tasks: ensuring that PLP accommodations are being met, helping students with test review, homework assistance, and editing and writing assistance
  • Teach students: testing strategies, organizational strategies, executive functioning skills, goal setting, self-advocacy and how to self-monitor
  • Provide direct academic support to identified students with assigned core content classes.
  • Integrate a variety of supplementary materials and technology applications into the learning environment appropriate to the unique learning styles and ability level of identified students
  • Host and or attend student accommodation plan meetings as requested
  • Assist with admission, transition and mentoring needs for students new to Michigan, Catholic Central, and/or the Grand Rapids area in collaboration with Admissions and Counseling
  • Participate in various school wide and student support department outreach events
  • Attend staff meetings and weekly department and planning meetings in identified department areas.
  • Participate in parent meetings during scheduled school conferences and maintain ongoing communication with parents throughout the school year
  • Coordinate academic support for individual students weekly before/after school
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Current Michigan teaching certificate (Special Ed or English endorsement preferred)
  • High school teaching or team-teaching experience
  • Experience working with diverse learners
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to furthering the Catholic mission and identity of the school

Preferred

  • Special Education Endorsement
  • Knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Americans with Disabilities Act
