Purpose and Scope
The Faith Formation Coordinator supports the Pastor in fulfilling the parish mission of gathering to worship God and serve the needs of His People. This person will be responsible for planning and coordinating all k-5th grade children’s faith formation programs, 6-12th grade Youth Ministry, and continuing adult faith formation opportunities, while working collaboratively with other members of the office staff. The successful candidate should be people-smart, assertive, highly organized; capable of communicating with clarity, working well with a wide array of personalities, and able to maintain confidentiality in all areas.

Essential Job Functions

General

  • Recruit, train, and support teams of volunteer catechists.
  • Offer catechists continuing formation opportunities.
  • Acts as the parish Safe Environment Coordinator and ensures that all volunteers who work with vulnerable populations are background checked and VIRTUS trained.
  • Maintains parish Sacramental record books.
  • Represents Faith Formation team at Liturgy Committee planning meetings.
  • Communicates to parish members upcoming programs thru parish bulletin.

Children’s Faith Formation

  • Evaluates and chooses program curriculum.
  • Plan and execute yearly program registrations.
  • Plan and lead family faith formation opportunities.
  • Plan and coordinate occasional Masses with special focus on children.

Youth Ministry

  • Plan and run weekly youth ministry meetings.
  • Organize and execute service opportunities, prayer services and retreats.

Adult Programming

  • Plans opportunities for the parish to grow in faith or knowledge of scripture.
  • Coordinates parish-wide reconciliation services.
  • Lead Baptismal preparation sessions and schedule Baptisms with the Pastor.
  • Lead a team of RCIA volunteers and communicate with Pastor to schedule rites as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred

  • Extensive understanding of Roman Catholic Church structure and teachings.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English; Spanish is helpful.
  • Prior experience in recruiting, supervising and coaching employees or volunteers to perform to the best of their abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize, work independently, set schedules, prioritize tasks, and work with other members of the staff in a team setting.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in computer software applications, including spreadsheets, word processing and database programs (Publisher, Excel, Word), and the ability to learn new software.
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and group studies.

Minimum Qualifications
Fully Initiated Catholic in good standing.
Basic knowledge of Catholic Theology.
Has Professional Catechetical Certification from the Diocese of Grand Rapids or is willing to obtain within 1 year.
3-5 years work experience in a similar field preferred.

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment.
This position requires the routine use standard office equipment such as computers, software systems, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.

Physical Demands
This is mainly a sedentary role.

Schedule:
• 40 hours; position involves weekend and evening hours.

Work Location:
Primarily one location. Occasionally duties will require travel to other parishes within our parish cluster.
