St. Mary Parish in Marne is seeking a part-time director of religious education (DRE). The ideal candidate possesses a clear knowledge of the Catholic faith, is energetic, confident, self-motivated, has excellent communication skills, and is enthusiastic about forming our children in the Catholic faith. This person reports directly to the pastor and is responsible for designing, articulating and implementing a comprehensive religious education program using the guidelines of the diocese. Coordination and collaboration with staff members and parishioners is crucial. It is preferred that candidates should have a degree in Theology or Education. This individual must be open to working hours that involve evenings, weekends, and special events as necessary.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develops, maintains and supervises the Religious Education Center of the parish (not maintenance).
• Coordinates family registrations and payment of fees (working with the business manager).
• Fosters effective communication among all persons including teachers, staff and parents involved with the Religious Education/Confirmation Programs
• Prepares class material for teachers as needed.
• Researches and purchases new books, tapes, DVD’s, periodicals, etc. needed to keep programs current.
• Works with catechists to update Diocesan Certification files and provides in-service when necessary
• Presents monthly reports and prepares policy recommendation for Education Commission
• Oversees/handles paperwork and general correspondence regarding the parish religious education programs (working closely with the parish secretary).
• Maintains the necessary records (attendance etc.).
• Notifies office for bi-annual catechist stipends.
• Provides input for the annual budget and program to the business manager/finance council.
• Coordinates the present grade levels of religious education.
• Sacramental preparation programs for First Reconciliation and First Communion.
• Sacramental preparation programs for Confirmation
• Consult regularly with the pastor regarding the progress of the Religious Education/Confirmation Program.
Personnel:
Recruits, supervises, and evaluates catechists.
Communication:
Attends education commission meetings, and other meetings concerning religious education.
