Father Richard Joseph Lawie, entered eternal life on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Father Lawie was born in Muskegon on Dec. 21, 1943, the son of Louis and Muriel (née Moyer) Lawie. He attended St. Mary Catholic School in Muskegon, St. Joseph Seminary in Grand Rapids, St. Mary’s in Norwood, Ohio, and St. John’s in Plymouth. He was ordained a priest by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph C. McKinney at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew on June 7, 1969.

Father Lawie served the parishes of St. Joseph in Manistee, St. James in Grand Rapids, Holy Spirit in Grand Rapids, St. Mary in Lowell, St. Joseph in Wright, St. John Vianney in Wyoming, Our Lady of the Lake in Holland, and Holy Redeemer in Jenison. He was granted long-term disability status on Feb. 1, 2003.
