$25Monday, Sept. 12, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Gather with us in person on September 12 for Invisible Walls: Ethnic Boundaries Within the City of Grand Rapids.
It’s said that birds of a feather flocked together. But is that true? And if it is true, is it healthy for the environment?
As you look around your circles — family, neighborhood, faith community, work environment — do you only see people who look like you?
Using Grand Rapids as an example, Professor Dillon Carr, assistant professor of anthropology at Grand Rapids Community College, will explore the racial and ethnic boundaries that wall us in. He will help us discover an ethic of care to foster healthy communities through intentional movement across these subconscious boundaries. With the wisdom and experience of anthropology, we can find ways to free ourselves from our invisible walls so we can create connections.
For the Invisible Walls program, we will gather in person at Dominican Center Marywood at Aquinas College.
