Creation, Evolution, and Our Place in the Cosmos

September 7, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Saint Benedict Institute at Hope College engages with the academy from an explicitly Catholic perspective and offers spiritual and intellectual formation to Catholic students. Our speaker events are open to the public, and both Catholic and non-Catholic community members are most welcome to attend.

Thursday, Sept. 7, 7 p.m., Creation, Evolution, and Our Place in the Cosmos fall speaker series. In the first offering of the series, Sister Damien Marie Savino, a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist and the Dean of Science and Sustainability at Aquinas College will present “What Is Man that You Are Mindful of Him?” The second speaker will be Stephen Barr, professor of physics and director of the Bartol Research Institute at the University of Delaware. He will present “Creation and Cosmology” on an upcoming date to be determined.

SBI is also a cosponsor of Western Theological Seminary’s Faith & Illness Initiative as well as an event hosted by the Hope College Department of Art and Art History. The event on Oct. 19 will feature Emily Lindbloom, an artist and Hope College alumna. She will deliver a public lecture on her work as an iconographer from a historical, theological, spiritual, and artistic perspective.
