A ceremony was held March 12 to mark the completion and celebrate next month’s opening of Catholic Charities West Michigan’s (CCWM) Kolbe Center, a new 4,700-square foot, 14-bed, alcohol and drug detox center in Muskegon. Bishop Walkowiak blessed the facility and grounds, and a ribbon-cutting took place.

Catholic Charities drug and alcohol detox center in Muskegon aims to ‘restore lives’ (Mlive)
Named for St. Maximilian Kolbe, a Polish friar considered to be the patron of drug addicts, the Center is located at 1713 7th Street in the Nelson neighborhood and is part of CCWM’s new $4.5 million Muskegon campus. A separate building will house the organization’s Muskegon offices and walk-in social services.
The “first detox center of its kind in the Muskegon area,” the Kolbe Center will serve the Muskegon community and is another example of how CCWM continues to adapt its programs to meet the needs of families and individuals in our 11-county diocese.
CCWM expects to treat up to 700 patients per year at the Kolbe Center, continuing to uplift our neighbors and put them on a path to sobriety. The need is especially great in Muskegon County, which has the highest hospitalization rate in Michigan due to opioid use and the eighth-highest rate of drug and alcohol related deaths per capita in the country, according to a CCWM press release.

Join CCWM for “Investing in Hope” ahead of the opening of their new Muskegon administrative building
Located across the parking lot from the Kolbe Center is CCWM’s new 21,000 square-foot administrative building which is scheduled to be opened in late spring this year.
The building will hold up to 80 employees who, like CCWM staff in Grand Rapids, will provide programs addressing child welfare, family preservation, community outreach and behavioral health. It will also contain conference rooms for group and individual counseling sessions, private meeting spaces, a baby pantry and pregnancy resource center, visiting rooms for families, a beautiful green space, and plenty of parking.
Ahead of the Muskegon administrative building grand opening, CCWM invites you to support “Investing in Hope” Giving Week. Throughout Investing in Hope Week, CCWM will be highlighting each of their Muskegon programs. Investing in Hope will raise awareness and funds for Catholic Charities’ Muskegon programs and will feature client success stories, behind-the-scenes tours of their programs, as well as a first look at their new Muskegon building and recently opened detox center.
