POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: High School Coordinator, Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Holland, Michigan
REPORTS TO: Director of Ministries/Discipleship
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time: 10 hours per week
BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recognizing our young people as the Church of today, we call them to conversion and intentional discipleship by offering a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. The High School Coordinator leads our high school ministry, focused on grades 9-12. In collaboration with the pastor and staff, provides discipleship development that emphasizes the baptismal call of all the faithful by catechizing and forming these youth to encounter Christ, know and practice the substance of their faith, and grow into practicing and responsible members of the Catholic Church.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Under the direction of the Director of Ministries, plan and lead weekly high school group ministry sessions on Sunday evenings. Maintain attendance records.
• Collaborate with volunteers to develop and lead group group activities centered around prayer, catechesis, and authentic spiritual growth.
• Plan, manage, and lead occasional special events.
• Partner with parents in drawing youth into a deeper relationship with Jesus and an increased desire to participate in worship, sacraments, and other opportunities for spiritual growth.
• Create, coordinate, and encourage participation in various spiritual growth opportunities for youth, such as retreats, camps, pilgrimages, youth Masses, prayer experiences and regional events.
• Attend monthly staff meetings (if possible).
• Other responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS Required:
• Active and confirmed practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
• A visionary person who leads an authentic, Catholic lifestyle and cultivates a strong prayer life along with knowledge of Catholic Teaching (CCC), Church documents and youth culture.
• Organized, outgoing, responsible person who possess strong administrative, communication, volunteer management and problem-solving skills with professionalism.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and meet adolescents within their unique life stage and faith journey.
• Demonstrates strong collaborative skills working in a staff/team environment.
• Familiarity with the current Life Teen curriculum.
• Is supportive of Catholic school education and will support and work towards fluidity and collaboration between Corpus Christi Catholic School and the parish Confirmation program.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license
QUALIFICATIONS Desired:
• Diocesan Certification in Catechesis, basic understanding of Catholic Beliefs, Liturgy and Church Sacramental Policies.
• Experience in youth ministry within a parish setting and/or experience as a Catechist.
• Familiarity with technology including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media.
