Msgr. Bill Duncan, pastor of St. Sebastian Parish, Byron Center, and vicar general for the Diocese of Grand Rapids was recognized as the State Chaplain of the Year by the Michigan Knights of Columbus on May 23. He received the award, named for Knights of Columbus founder, Blessed Michael McGivney, during the Knights’ 2024 State Convention on Mackinac Island where he was joined by Bishop Walkowiak. Msgr. Duncan is the second recipient of this prestigious award.
The award honors a Knights of Columbus chaplain who embodies priestly zeal and exemplary service in alignment with the values of Father McGivney. The recipient is recognized as a teacher of the faith, an apostle of Christian family life, a dedicated parish priest, a model of charity, a promoter of Catholic fraternity, and a role model within his parish community. Nominees from among the 429 councils in Michigan were considered.
Msgr. Duncan is the chaplain for St. Sebastian’s Knights of Columbus Council 14642. He was nominated by Council member Mike McClain.
