The Comprehensive School Counselor will serve the assigned students (alphabetical distribution) at Catholic Central High School beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. This position is responsible for the execution of the Counseling Department programs and services related to the academic progress, career development and personal wellbeing of each student as well as regular communication with students, parents, and faculty.

Primary Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a plan, monitor and advise students and parents as to progress toward promotion and graduation
  • Monitor students’ overall performance and collaborate with staff to support students
  • Use data to improve programming that meets the needs of all students
  • Develop and deliver school counseling curriculum in the classroom setting, according to national counseling standards
  • Support student orientation, parent information nights and conferences, and other programs beyond the school day.
  • Proficient with the usage and integration of technology (familiarity with Infinite Campus preferred)
  • Demonstrate proficiency with the usage and integration of technology
  • Through classroom, small group, and individual student planning, assist students in developing a post-secondary plan
  • Deliver career assessments and lessons that assist students in identifying personal characteristics connected to their vocational/career calling
  • Advise students on potential Career and Technical Education opportunities that provide them with career exploration
  • Provide responsive services to meet the needs of students, including individual, group and crisis response counseling
  • Assist students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults
  • Assist students who may be experiencing difficult life circumstances
  • Assist students in developing healthy coping strategies for successful school and life transitions
  • Assist students in developing interpersonal communication skills
  • Deliver lessons that equip students to become positive members of their school and community
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth
  • Lead professional development activities for other educators
  • Provide support both in the classroom setting and during established office hours
  • Contribute to the school community outside of the classroom
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

The Counselor will be a person who has a dynamic personality, is organized, well rounded, engaging, and who seeks growth and collaboration inside and outside of the classroom. Additionally, they will:

  • Possess a state of Michigan school counselor endorsement or a school counselor license, or Master’s degree in counseling
  • Exhibit a strong interest in and concern for best practices in school counseling, ideally with previous experience
  • Be well organized and able to coordinate scheduling and programming
  • Have highly effective communication skills with professional colleagues, students, and parents
  • Demonstrate an ability and commitment to furthering the Catholic mission and identity of the school
  • Practicing Catholic preferred
