Father John LaGoe, age 90, entered eternal life on Oct. 31, 2022. Father LaGoe was born on Feb. 10, 1932, in Marion, the son of Herbert and Marie (née Flood) LaGoe.

He attended Marion Elementary and High schools, St. Jerome Seminary in Kitchener, Ontario, and St. John’s Seminary in Plymouth. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1961, by Bishop Allen J. Babcock at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew.
In June 1961, Father LaGoe was appointed parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception Parish in Traverse City; in July 1966, appointed parochial vicar of St. Mary Parish in Muskegon; in July 1969, appointed parochial vicar of St. Francis in Muskegon; in September 1970, appointed pastor of St. Mary of the Woods in Lakewood; in February 1978, appointed Diocesan Consultor; in June 1980, appointed pastor of Our Lady of Fatima in Shelby and Our Lady of Assumption in Rothbury; in August 1980, appointed chaplain for the Oceana County Jail; in June 1981, appointed director of the Christian Community Center in Muskegon; in Fall 1978, went to Rome for a three-month study for Continuing Theological Education; in September 1988, appointed administrator of St. Joseph in Muskegon; in June 1989, appointed full time director of Christian Community Center in Muskegon. He was granted senior priest status on Sept. 1, 1997.
