Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish (Grand Rapids, MI) is seeking a dynamic full-time Director of Liturgical Music.

The Director of Liturgical Music is responsible for overseeing the parish music program as the principal pianist, organist, and choir director, ensuring quality hymns that enhance the Mass and encourage congregants to participate through song. The Director is also an integral part of the Pastoral Staff and as such, supports and collaborates with other parish ministries and parish functions. This professional holds specialized credentials in liturgical music and has a thorough understanding of the Roman Catholic Liturgy. The Director will conduct themselves according to the highest professional standards established by this profession and most importantly, minister with the heart of a servant.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish has a musical tradition of excellence, rich from the talents of current parishioners and attracting new musicians throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids. We support a significant music budget to hire professional instrumentalists, upkeep quality programming, and continually develop our volunteers/staff.

Our space is home to:
-Concert Grand Steinway piano and Allen Electric Organ
-Ample library of intermediate/advanced choral and bell music
-Soundcraft Si Performer Mixer with quality audio recording/sound system

Primary Responsibilities:

The Director of Liturgical Music at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church reports directly to the Pastor, with open and ongoing communication a must.
-The Director will be the principal Pianist, Organist, and Choir Director for all weekend liturgies, school Masses, and other holy days/celebrations, including:
3 weekend liturgies (Saturdays 5:15 pm, Sundays 8:30 and 11:00 am)
School liturgies (one weekday Mass during the school year only)
-Prepare Music Selections, including
Continue to build and maintain repertoire in both traditional and contemporary traditions
Ensure song suitability for Roman Catholic liturgy
-Recruit, prepare, and train Parish music groups and volunteers, including
-Collaborate with the IHM School Music Teacher in:
scheduling school-aged cantors,
overseeing the preparation of school choirs for school liturgies,
8th grade graduation
-Direct the hiring of professional string and brass players for high feast celebrations, such as Christmas, Easter, Christ the King, Pentecost
-Prepare worship aids and supplements for congregational singing, as needed
-Ensure proper copyright usage for all printed materials
-Oversee Wedding and funeral Music, including:
-Prepare, review, and maintain the music budget
-Maintain and upkeep musical instruments and sound equipment
-Answer emails and phone messages, attend meetings and update the website as needed

Qualifications:

Practicing Catholic who upholds Catholic teaching
Bachelor in Music or Liturgical Music, with a mature experience in Catholic worship (preferred minimum of 2 years)
Skilled pianist, organist, and choir director/vocal coach
Thorough knowledge of Church documents directing sacred music in the Catholic Church
Passion for engaging quality congregational singing
Ability to work effectively with other employees and volunteers
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Finale, Gmail, and Google Calendar
