FUNCTION: Support the mission of the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids with overall vision, services and support of the human resources function. Support and grow a culture of competence, inclusion, learning and collegiality.


  • Human Resources Management
  • Develop departmental goals and objectives that support DSGR mission, values and campus planning initiatives
  • Establish and monitor HR performance measures around goals and objectives; prepare and present results (and corrective actions where necessary)
  • Prepare and manage annual HR budget
  • Design employee development programs that align the workforce with DSGR campus values
  • Develop internal and external HR-related communications around campus culture, events, recruiting, etc.


  • Draft and maintain job requirements and job descriptions for all positions with department managers
  • Establish recruiting, testing and interviewing processes and procedures
  • Lead the selection and hiring process; develop and deliver standard offer correspondence
  • Design and deliver new employee on-boarding, orientation and training programs
  • Develop consistent annual performance appraisal process
  • Review and update the employee handbook as needed
  • Establish and maintain human resource and personnel records

Employee Relations

  • Schedule regular communication to employees regarding HR policies, procedures, DSGR mission and values, campus activities and events
  • Monitor and promote employee morale and motivation; conduct periodic surveys to measure employee satisfaction and engagement
  • Establish protocol for investigating and resolving employee complaints or concerns
  • Establish progressive performance improvement plans for under-performing employees

Compensation and Benefits

  • Research and monitor best practices in compensation and all benefits
  • Maintain a fair and competitive compensation system supported by current and relevant compensation surveys and area practices
  • Monitor and recommend compensation adjustments to campus leadership
  • Select and manage third-party administrators / brokers of benefits, insurances, 403(b) plan administrator
  • Schedule open enrollment and benefits education and training

Payroll and Benefits Administration

  • Process bi-weekly payroll and all related reports
  • Assist employees with payroll and benefits websites and other online resources
  • Monitor and update payroll and benefits systems with wage, pay grade, status, and benefit deduction adjustments
  • Review benefit billings – health, vision, dental, LTD, workers compensation, unemployment, other
  • Produce total annual compensation statements for employees and timely W-2 forms


  • Lead labor compliance requirements (practice and reporting) with applicable governmental agencies – EEO, ADA, FMLA, ERISA, OSHA, workers compensation and unemployment
  • Review and approve all information submitted to reporting agencies and serve as primary contact with employment counsel and governmental agencies
  • Interface with outside labor counsel as needed


  • Participate in CDLG meetings as directed
  • Collaborate with Leadership Team on succession planning, key employee retention, workforce development, change management


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Organizational Development
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in Human Resources positions
  • Active affiliation in appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of laws, regulations, administrative practices and procedures around personnel administration and benefits
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, strict confidentiality and personal integrity
  • Experience in Microsoft Office environment with proficiency in Excel
  • Experience with benefits and payroll systems
  • Experience in a senior living environment preferred
