In 2018, Mississippi enacted a law, the “Gestational Age Act” which makes elective abortions illegal after 15 weeks except in cases of severe fetal abnormality or the life of the mother. This act was challenged by Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Mississippi’s sole abortion provider. The case, Dobbs vs Jackson, has progressed through U.S. courts and will be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court this summer. The significance of the case is that it directly challenges the central holding in Roe v. Wade; that there is a fundamental right to abortion found in the U.S. Constitution. What does moment mean for people of faith?

John Bursch has argued 12 U.S. Supreme Court cases and more than 30 Michigan Supreme Court cases since 2011. He served as solicitor general for Michigan from 2011-2013. John defends religious liberty, free speech, and the right to life while also representing Fortune 500 companies, foreign and domestic governments, and top public officials in high-profile cases, primarily on appeal. He was inducted into the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and serves as a member of the American Law Institute.
